Art for Guy’s sake: MTA – Mobile Travel Agents’ founders surprise Guy Sebastian
MTA – Mobile Travel Agents’ founder and co-managing directors Karen and Roy Merricks have presented a special gift to Guy Sebastian, after the singer joined them at the company’s 20th anniversary conference.
The gift, a portrait of the musician painted by Karen Merrick’s nephew, artist Paul Trappett, has been donated by the Merricks family to Guy Sebastian’s personal charitable cause, the Sebastian Foundation.
The presentation followed a personal Q&A session with the singer and MTA advisors hosted by the Nine Network’s Ally Langdon before Sebastian took to the stage to perform for the 500-plus conference delegates attending the conference gala dinner at Movie World on the Gold Coast.
G Adventures ‘Microfam’ a “huge success” Australia wide
Nepal expert and chief experience officer Suman Khatri was on hand to guide more than 30 agents around their own cities, sharing insights into his home country of Nepal and G Adventures’ various styles of travel styles on offer there.
The groups of travellers – made up of a mix of STA, Helloworld, MTA, Travel Managers and others – explored each city with Nepal highlights in mind.
Beginning their tours with a steep hike, Brisbane agents conquered the Story bridge climb, Perth agents tackled Jacob’s Ladder to Kings Park, and Melbourne agents made it to the top of the Southern Cross railway station stairs, while Sydney agents took a more relaxed approach discovering G Adventures’ wellness tour with a morning yoga class.
G Adventures’ Microfamils are designed to educate agents on tours available in Nepal as well as the unique experiences available through the company’s various styles of travel, through taking them outside of the traditional training presentation and offering a hands-on learning experience.
Agents step back in time with Quasar Expeditions
Four of Australia’s top South America wholesale specialists recently stepped back in time in the Galapagos on board Quasar Expeditions’ M/V Evolution.
Hosted by Eric Andrews from Quasar Expeditions and Rob Gurr from Ynot Concepts, the group kicked off their adventure with a couple of nights in Ecuador’s cultural capital, Quito, before embarking on the eight-day, seven-night cruise itinerary around the Galapagos Islands.
From exploring the islands and observing wildlife on foot, and by kayaking and taking panga rides to mingling with turtles and sharks in the water, the group enjoyed a first-hand opportunity to both experience and understand the uniqueness of the Galapagos Islands.
Participating travel professionals included (as pictured above, L to R) Ushi Grant from Travel Projects, Pauline Stavrakis from Abercrombie & Kent, Savio Pereira from The Travel Specialists, and Brendan Murphy from Latitude 33.

JAPAN 2020 Sno’n’Ski mega-famil wraps up
Sno’n’Ski Holidays’ first 2020 mega-famil to Japan concluded Saturday, 29 February in Hakuba.
After experiencing the best of the Tohoku Region and Nagano Prefecture with four nights in each, the group of 30 agents from across Australia made a stop to the snow monkeys on their return to Tokyo, before heading home.
Beginning in Shizukuishi, the agents were amazed with the choices of runs and the lack of lift lines at this beautiful resort.
Flight Centre consultant Alannah Silva said: “There are just so many runs to enjoy while here, make sure to try the night skiing, cat skiing and spend a day at Amihari Onsen Ski Resort or Iwate Kogen Snow Park to make the most of the whole region.”
