Woman dies on international Qantas flight

Melbourne, Australia - August 2, 2011: Qantas is an internationally recognised airline with a reputation for quality and safety. This is the side of a Boeing 747 parked at Melbourne airport.

A woman has died while flying home to Melbourne from Los Angeles over the weekend with Qantas.

The 34-year-old Sunshine West woman was on board a 16-hour flight, which landed in Melbourne on Sunday morning, when she died, according to media reports.

The plane was met by paramedics on the tarmac at Tullamarine Airport just before 9am yesterday, following efforts from cabin crew and two doctors during the flight.

A Victoria Police spokesperson told Travel Weekly that it is awaiting the results of a post mortem following the woman’s death.

“The exact cause of the woman’s death is yet to be determined at this stage,” the spokesperson said.

Qantas declined to comment when contacted by Travel Weekly.

This is the second time in as many years that a female passenger has died on board an international Qantas flight, with a NSW woman passing away while travelling from London to Sydney in June 2018.
