Industry heavyweights team up to acquire Abercrombie & Kent

Two luxury travel visionaries have agreed to jointly acquire 100 per cent of the Abercrombie & Kent Group of Companies S.A. (A&K).

Manfredi Lefebvre (pictured above, left), who is the former owner and current executive chairman of Silverseas Cruises, as well as the chairman of Heritage group, will own 85 per cent of A&K under the deal with A&K founder, chairman and CEO Geoffrey Kent (pictured above, right), who will own 15 per cent.

Lefebvre will become chairman of Abercrombie & Kent Holding as part of the deal.

The acquisition announcement comes not long after Royal Caribbean Group acquired a 66 per cent stake in Silversea Cruises. However, the A&K deal is a separate and unique investment by Heritage group, led by Lefebvre, and does not involve Silversea.

Lefebvre and Kent have known each other for more than 20 years, and have also been business partners in the past with their acquisition of the MV Explorer in 1992.

Lefebvre said: “Abercrombie & Kent is the finest luxury travel company in the world, and I am honoured to be able to partner with Geoffrey Kent to help this remarkable company continue its record growth.”

Kent said: “I am very excited to be working with Manfredi. I cannot think of a better or more experienced partner for the next phase of A&K’s growth.”

The deal is expected to be completed later in the year, subject to customary closing conditions and regulatory approvals.
