German Tourism launches 100 years of Bauhaus at the Iconic Harry Seidler Penthouse

There could not be a more perfect place to launch 100 years of Bauhaus than Harry Seidler’s penthouse.

The Austrian born Australian architect truly embodied the modernist principles and philosophies of the movement.

Bauhaus, which originated in the years between WW1 and WW2, was a school of ideas and philosophy that challenged centuries of thinking in design, the arts, education and of course architecture.

Its avant-garde approach appealed to a generation of young intellectuals and paved the way for challenging old and outdated ways of thinking. Free-spirited, experimental and innovative, Bauhaus as a way of thinking is more relevant today than ever.

Consul General, Peter Silberberg and Professor Brejek chat to Travel Weekly’s Nancy Hromin and Kate Chaffer

If your clients are passionate about architecture, design and travel the German tourism program offers an exhilarating line up of over 600 festival activities, shows, installations, talks and concerts stretching from now to December across the country.

We heard from the German Tourism board’s Nadja Warner and prominent professor Thea Brejizek from the faculty of design and architecture at UTS (University of Technology Sydney) on the enduring impact of Bauhaus in much of the pared-back minimalism that is popular today.

The program reflects the movement- a lively and exciting series of events traversing the country.

The celebration of this fascinating movement is a compelling reason to take that trip to Europe and enjoy a profoundly cultural experience.

With 3 new museums opening as part of the celebrations in Berlin, Weimar and Dessau and 3 festivals in Dessau among the extensive program, even your seasoned traveller to Germany will be booking those flights.

100 years of Bauhaus’ invites travellers on a Germany-wide journey of discovery. It will take in the origins and places of activity of modernism – to the places where revolutionary ideas in architecture, art, design, photography or dance were and are developed.
