Where France is at its best

There’s no doubt the past few years have shone a new light on women in the workplace. With so many being celebrated for being the best in their field, it’s not surprising tourism has followed with new itineraries curated around firsthand experiences to meet with the successful women behind well-known brands and businesses.

The popular region of Burgundy is one such example, where two neighbouring tourism boards have joined forces to offer a suggested self-guided itinerary for travellers to be able to indulge in the French countryside while taking in places where women are in the spotlight for leading iconic Burgundian companies.

The four-day suggested itinerary includes wine estates, chateaux’s, five-star accommodation and restaurants as well as important cultural heritage sites, according to Emmanuelle Hézard Hervieu from Burgundy-Franche-Comté Tourism and Françoise Bidot of Beaune Tourism.

Both women visited Australia last week to meet with various trade partners to discuss the 4-day trip commencing in Paris, and told Travel Weekly it had been well received by Australian operators and agents alike.

The home of Dijon Mustard, Burgundy also boasts nine UNESCO World Heritage Sites as well as a number of premier wine producers, including Chablis and the world-famous Grand Crus.

According to Hervieu, there is an increasing number of women working in tourism in the region, from hotel owners to winemakers. Highlights of the 4-day itinerary include stops at either female run or owned properties and tourist areas of Chateau de Beru, the Flavigny sur Ozerain village (as seen in the movie Le Chocolat), Hotel Dieu, and Chateau de Chassagne-Montrachet.
