Helloworld raises more than $53,000 for drought relief

Helloworld Travel employees have thrown their weight and wallets behind the farmers to help them through one of the worst droughts on record.

Agents pulled together to raise funds to deliver much-needed supplies of hay to Lightening Ridge in northern NSW last week, and also supported the Hay Mate Drought Relief concert at Scully Park in Tamworth on the weekend.

With the company leading the way and donating an initial semi-trailer load of hay, employees from Helloworld Travel Limited offices around Australia took on a fundraising challenge, kicking off on the 9th August.

With Helloworld Travel Limited matching dollar for dollar any donations made, employees banded together to donate enough to fund a total of 5 semi-trailer loads of hay, plus a single trailer and gift cards, giving a total of more than $53,000 to the relief fund.

The worst drought in decades is taking its toll on Australian farmers, and with all of the relief efforts from organisations and individuals around the country and the world, Helloworld Travel and its employees jumped at the chance to show their support.

Helloworld Travel Limited was also proud to support the cause through the ‘Hay Mate Drought Relief Concert’ through its wholesale brand Qantas Holidays.

Together with Qantas, the brands provided access to relief concert held in Tamworth via a VIP chartered flight from Sydney.

Passengers were treated to a champagne breakfast in the Qantas business lounge, where Conrad Sewell performed exclusively before boarding the aircraft.

The concert, with Aussie rockers John Farnham, Daryl Braithwaite, Guy Sebastian, Jon Stevens, Andrew Farriss and The Veronicas perform to over 6,500 people and the supporting telethon raised over $2m, with the flight itself raising $55,000.

The Buy a Bale campaign is part of the charity Rural Aid, formed to expand services and support to rural communities not only suffering through natural disasters, but communities that need help remaining in existence.

Since the first hay drive in September 2013, the program has delivered thousands of bales of hay across Australia.
