Big Fat Airline Wrap
If you’re stuck inside on this sunny Tuesday, reading this airline wrap real slow should help you get through it. Or you can make like us and leave early for an “appointment”.
Jetstar to add two additional weekly flights to Fiji from December 2018 to mid-January 2019
In its eighth year of operations to the popular holiday destination, Jetstar has announced it will add two additional weekly services between Sydney and Nadi from 15 December 2018 to 19 January 2019, taking the total number of weekly flights to the island to six.
Operated by an Airbus A320 aircraft, the additional services add close to 2,000 number of seats to the route and reflects strong demand, particularly during the busy Australian school holiday peak.
Fares start from $249 one way and are available from today at jetstar.com.
Air New Zealand to lift plastic waste reduction to more than 24 million items per year
Air New Zealand will substitute a further 14 single-use plastic products from its supply chain over the next 12 months – lifting plastic waste reduction to more than 24 million items per year.
Today at its Sustainability Breakfast in Wellington the airline committed to replacing five single-use plastic products across domestic services, including water cups, café cups and lids, Koru Hour cheese plates and lids, as well as nine types of plastic bags network-wide, with lower impact alternatives over the next 12 months.
Already this year the airline has removed single-use plastic straws, stir sticks, eye mask wrappers and plastic toothbrushes from lounges and on board aircraft. Over a 12 month period this will see the airline reduce its plastic footprint by 260,000 plastic toothbrushes, 3,000 straws, 7.1 million stirrers and 260,000 eye mask wrappers.
These changes are part of a wider programme aimed at reducing the airline’s use of plastic, supported by the Ministry for the Environment, which has assisted the airline in identifying lower impact alternatives and aligning its end-of-life solutions to New Zealand’s existing facilities, recycling and composting capabilities.
Tahitian Dreamliner arrives in Tahiti
Air Tahiti Nui’s Tahitian Dreamliner has touched down in Tahiti, with the airline’s first Boeing 787-9 arriving to a warm Polynesian welcome earlier this week. Please see the attached images of the new aircraft arriving in Papeete including some tattooed Tahitians proudly welcoming the tattooed Tahitian Dreamliner.
The new livery was inspired by the beauty and richness of the Polynesian islands, including Air Tahiti Nui’s trademark tiare flower, a giant tattoo representing a story of Tahiti and its people, and the blue hues that the islands are synonymous with.
To coincide with Air Tahiti Nui’s 20th anniversary this year, the flag carrier for French Polynesia is phasing out its current Airbus A340-300 fleet and replacing it with four 787-9 Dreamliners including two purchased and two leased through the Air Lease Corporation.
The airline is set to receive all four Dreamliners by September 2019.
Munich Airport announces partnership with “Too Good To Go”
Avoiding food waste and saving money – while promoting sustainability: Allresto, the Munich Airport subsidiary responsible for most of the airport’s food and beverage operations, has launched a pilot project to test a new app: “Too Good To Go”. This digital platform lets airport visitors, passengers and employees order surplus food prepared by restaurants and other food service establishments at special reduced prices for pick-up between 8:00 and 9:30 pm. The first restaurant at Munich Airport to join the pilot project is Surf & Turf (photo) in the Munich Airport Center (MAC).
The app is the brainchild of a Danish start-up and is now up and running in nine countries. So far more than 10,000 food service locations and over 5 million users have been won over by the idea of reducing waste by selling extra food at reduced prices. After logging on, users see a list of participating stores with appetizing offers in their area, including prices. The app also processes orders and payments. When an order is placed, the meal is ready for pick-up at the store or restaurant location within the indicated time window.
The responsible treatment of resources and climate protection are central priorities under Munich Airport’s corporate strategy. In that context, the airport has a diverse range of measures. In particular, it has set the target of achieving carbon-neutral airport operations by 2030. “Too Good To Go” is the latest building block in the airport’s sustainability concept, and is simple enough to be expanded quickly and easily to other restaurants and cafés at the airport.
