Aussie tour operators band together to raise money for Lombok

The death toll for last weeks devastating earthquakes in Lombok has climbed to an unprecedented 430 people.

The powerful quakes levelled tens of thousands of homes, mosques and businesses across the island, leaving around 353,000 homeless.

According to Aljazeera, many people have resorted to sleeping in tents near their destroyed homes, or in evacuation centres and makeshift medical centres have been set up to treat the 1,300 who were wounded as many hospitals were destroyed.

Ruined infrastructure and roads are hampering relief efforts to isolated communities who are desperately in need of drinking water, food and medicine.

Since the earthquake hit, several Aussie Tour Operators have banded together to raise money for the people on Lombok and Gili Trawangan.

Money that is currently being used to buy much-needed supplies, such as blankets, tents and water.

Intro Travel – who run tours in Bali and Gili Trawangan, Mojo Surf – who operate surf trips in Bali and Lombok and Gili Trawangan Dive – who run a dive school on Gili Trawangan have so far received over $40,000 from hundreds of small donations from their wonderful customers and staff!

With the massive amount of devastation, it’s going to take some time for the people on Lombok and Gili to get their lives back together. But hopefully with the help of kind-hearted travel industry folk such as yourselves, they’ll have enough food, water and shelter to help them survive and get back on their feet.

If you want to donate you can do it here.

Just $8 will buy a family a blanket and some water.
