Sea Life wins gold for Penguin exhibition

One of the world’s most iconic and recognised visitor attractions, Sea Life Sydney Aquarium, has been honoured with a gold award for its Penguin Expedition at the Australasian Zoo and Aquarium (ZAA) Conference this week.

Opening in late 2016, Penguin Expedition is the world’s first ride through penguin experience, offering guests the chance to jump aboard a raft and travel through the sub-Antarctic home of its spectacular colony of King and Gentoo penguins.

“We are truly honoured to have received the title for best large-scale exhibit for our Penguin Expedition,” said Richard Dilly, General Manager at Sea Life Sydney Aquarium.

“Our guests come back year after year so we are committed to continually investing and improving their experience by introducing new technology, creatures and interactives.

“The state-of-the-art $9 million Penguin Expedition is unlike anything else in the world and in addition to the overwhelmingly positive feedback we receive from our guests every day, we’re proud that we’ve now been recognised by leaders in the industry for our commitment to delivery memorable experiences.

“2018 has already been a huge year for us and we have plenty more to celebrate.

“After welcoming four Grey Nurses Sharks to the aquarium in March and launching Shark Dive Extreme in April, last week we announced an exciting new $5 million exhibit – Day and Night on the Reef – will open later this year. Be sure to watch this space for the launch of more exciting and innovative experiences!”

The ZAA Conference award night provides a chance for the Association to recognise progress, dedication and to celebrate industry excellence at zoos, aquariums and wildlife parks across Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea and South Pacific Islands.

Nine awards were presented for four categories, including the Exhibit, Innovation, Education and In-situ Conservation Awards.

Penguin Expedition runs daily from 9:30am – 6pm, the ride is open from 10am – 4pm and is included on all tickets and passes for Sea Life Sydney Aquarium, including multi-attraction passes and annual passes.  For more information on Sea Life Sydney Aquarium, click here.
