Man’s romantic gesture backfires spectacularly at Airport

If there was ever a case for entering a correct name when booking a flight, this is it.

Yesterday, a man caused his girlfriend to get kicked off her flight after he tried his best to be romantic.

When booking flights to Japan online, a Swiss man of Thai descent decided to give his girlfriend a romantic middle name that definitely didn’t match her passport.

What he didn’t realise was that the airline would turn her away when they got to the airport.

Online he put the Thai nickname “duang” – meaning sweetheart – on his girlfriends boarding pass, between her first and last names, Swiss news site Tages Anzeiger reported.

But at the check-in gate at Zurich Airport, the woman was told she could not check-in, as her name didn’t match the one on her passport.

Then, the party of three was told her name couldn’t be changed so last minute, and that she had to book – and pay for – a new flight the following day.

It couldn’t get any worse, right? Wrong.

The two other people travelling with the woman were set to board their scheduled flight and meet her in Japan the next day – but delays at the check-in counter meant they both had to rebook their flights too.

Basically, one small mistake ended up being very, very expensive for the trio.

And the whole situation proved to be just too much for the woman, who fainted at the check-in desk.

Luckily, after being treated by ambulance staff, she was found to have no injuries.

So let this be a warning – when you’re booking flights in the future, make sure your name matches your passport.
