$600m Gold Coast theme park gets green light
Mark this in your diary agents, the latest development in the Gold Coast is sure to increase your family bookings by ten-fold.
A $600 million theme park is set to be built in the Sunshine State, having received a huge tick of approval from the Chinese Government.
A thorough development applicated was submitted to the Gold Coast City Council last July by Chinese theme park company Songcheng.
The ‘Australian Legends World’ will be located in an area currently operating as farmland in Nerang, near a train station and the Metricon Stadium.
According to the Gold Coast Bulletin, Australian Legends World will house a number of animal exhibits, an indoor ski field, a 3,500-seat theatre and an adventure park.
The park is also expected t create thousands of jobs during its construction.
Speaking to the Gold Coast Bulletin, Mayor Tom Tate said: “We’re delighted the Chinese Government has included this project on their Belt and Road list.
“Our city’s relationship with China is built on trust as well as council’s ability to minimise red tape, while still ensuring all environmental and development guidelines are adhered to.”
“The project will still require all relevant approvals.”
“I look forward to seeing this theme park development progress as it will bring significant financial and social benefits for our city.’’
The plans for the park also include housing for up to 2,000 residents, including a high-rise development.
Plans for the theme park also include accommodation for up to 2,000 travellers and residents, as well as a high-rise development.
As per the Bulletin, the park still needs to get the green light for its development and environmental approvals and may face strong opposition from Nareng locals and floodplain protectors.
However, supporters of the development have said the recent backing from the Chinese Government is a “huge push for the project”.
ABC News has obtained an old illustration of the planned park, which was first released a few years back.
According to the ABC, the fibreglass Uluru which was set to loom over the park has since been scrapped.
As per the ABC, the park has already garnered its fair share of negative press, with more than 300 objections to the project already lodged with the Gold Coast City Council.
