Qantas’ quirky tactic to get more US travellers down under

Young African American woman at airport holding passport

Qantas has been all over our website lately, from the launch of its sexy new Dreamliners, to its tearjerking ads (quick, someone grab the tissues) to celebrate the snazzy aircraft.

But on the other side of the world, it’s also getting a little love.

A new campaign from Qantas, targeting US travellers, has offered to pay for their passports when they book a trip down under with Qantas.

It’s new ad campaign plays it straight – Americans list Australia as one of the top bucket list destinations, but not everyone’s got a passport. So book a trip, and it’s on them.

And if you’ve already got a passport – well there’s a cheeky $135 back in your wallet when you book with them anyway. Just add the code ‘passport’ when booking a Qantas flight to Australia, and the discount is yours.

Check out the ‘Passport Take-Off’ clip here:

According to Tourism Australia, the US is the fourth largest market for inbound visitors, generating more than $3.6 billion in revenue.

And while arrivals have grown by over 57 per cent, the most recent figures from the tourism body showed a little bit of a slump.

Around 49,900 Americans visited Australia in the month, however this was down slightly from 50,300 the same time last year.
