Newest overwater bungalows (not in Tahiti!)

Overwater bungalows outside Tahiti? Well, I never!

But here they are, popping up for the very first time on Fiji’s mainland, and it’s all thanks to Marriott Hotels. And while we recently did a wrap up of the most divine Tahitian bungalows stretching over the sea, today it’s Fiji’s turn.

Marriott International’s flagship brand has marked the opening of Fiji Marriott Resort Momi Bay, on the western coast of Viti Levu.

Surrounded by 20 hectares of crystal-clear, man-made lagoons, guests are also spoiled with direct access to a private white-sand beach.

The resort features 114 Bure Villas, including 22 over-water Bure Villas with decks from which guests can dive directly into the turquoise waters. The design extends to the 136 Deluxe Rooms, which can be interconnected, making them ideal for families and groups.

The villas feature open-plan spaces, with designs that reflect the local culture with motifs, colours and materials all inspired by Fijian design.

“We want our guests to experience aesthetically pleasing spaces that help foster their inventive nature,” said Matthew Carroll, Vice President, Marriott Hotels.

“Marriott Hotels has consistently pushed to create experiences that inspire our guests’ creativity, and where else is more inspirational than an over-water villa in Fiji.”

The resort is situated a convenient 45-minute drive from Nadi International Airport, and within easy reach of Nadi Town (29km), Denarau Island (36km) and other attractions.

Adventure-seekers can enjoy a short boat ride to Cloud Break Surf to experience some of the world’s most impressive waves, go zip-lining or explore the Sebeto hot springs and rejuvenate in the mineral-rich mud baths.

And if that’s not enough to keep guests entertained, there’s also three restaurants offering local and international cuisines; the Goji Kitchen & Bar, Lagoon House & Bar; and Fiji Baking Company.

For weddings, special events, conferences and meetings, the Grand Salon Ballroom has 360 square metres of versatile event space with an abundance of natural light. Guests can take advantage of the resort’s beachfront location and 1,200 square metres of outdoor pre-function space by extending their event outside.

There’s also two golf courses, stand-up paddle boarding and kayaking, the plush Quan Spa, three large pools and whirlpool for the kiddies, and an adults-only infinity pool and swim-up bar.

And now for the photo gallery….
