It’s more common on cruise ships, but that knowledge won’t make those affected on Sun Princess feel any better.

A gastro outbreak was reported toward the end of a 12-day trip to Papua New Guinea sailing on Sun Princess, affecting around 90 cruisers before docking in Brisbane yesterday.

The health concern resulted in major delays for expected holidaymakers while the ship underwent a “prolonged disinfection” ahead of a new sailing last night, the ABC reports.

The cruise line told the paper passengers waiting to board the ship had been notified about norovirus and appropriate hygiene standards.

According to the report, the cruise line said it was rare for passengers to pick up the gastro bug toward the end of a cruise, it was on alert because “norovirus had been active in the general community in recent months”.

This follows reports of another gastro outbreak on Sun Princess last December.
