Meet the pilots of LAX: Captain William Gardiner
Change is afoot over at LAX, and who better to shine a light on the airport’s new charms than the pilots that fly to LAX over and over again?
Pilot’s name: Captain William Gardiner
Airline: Fiji Airways
Route: NAN – LAX
The best thing about flying with Fiji Airways to LAX is…
I love that I can fly our planes directly from our small hub in the South Pacific all the way to Los Angeles, the gateway to the US. Our airline uniform stands out at a busy place like LAX and people are always asking about Fiji.
LAX is going through a modernisation process. What do you think stands out the most, or are you most impressed with?
LAX has always been one of my favourite places to fly and now with these new facilities, it’s even better. The new shopping areas, eateries and especially the lounges look really great now, they have some wonderful décor there.
My favourite place to grab a bite/coffee at LAX is…
Two words–Border Grill. They sell gourmet Mexican food. Having flown to LAX many times, it is nice to have a food truck type of service at the airport. The rotating food truck is in Terminal 4 and the airport invites different chefs to take part.
Alternatively, you can check out Border Grill at their restaurant at Tom Bradley International Terminal.
My insider tip for a visit to LAX is…
L.A. is the entertainment capital of the world. There are so many things to do and sometimes so little time, so my best tip is to make sure you plan your day-to-day activities properly.
During your layover in L.A., what are your top 3 favourite things to do or see or stay?
Visit one of the many fun parks, Universal Studios Hollywood especially. Go on a day shopping trip on Rodeo Drive. Even if you are not buying anything, it’s a good place to visit, and of course, you can tell your mates you’ve been there. Also, Santa Monica is a lovely town within Los Angeles and it’s not far from Venice beach, which has lots of markets.
Describe Los Angeles in three words…
Diverse, interesting and entertaining!
