AccorHotels makes fresh appointment
AccorHotels is pleased to announce that Danesh Bamji has been named General Manger Franchise Australia. Danesh is now based in AccorHotels Sydney corporate office and will report to Lindsay Leeser, Vice President Development and Vice President Franchise Pacific.

Peppers launches in Adelaide
Boutique Australian hotel brand Peppers now has its first hotel in Adelaide, offering leisure and business travellers alike a sophisticated and convenient hotel option in the heart of the festival city.

Hilton heads to PNG
Hilton Worldwide has announced the signing of its first Hilton Hotels & Resorts branded hotel in Papua New Guinea.
Under this management agreement with Star Mountain Plaza Ltd (SMPL), Hilton will manage the newly build Hilton Port Moresby and convention centre in the Star Mountain Plaza development in Port Moresby.
Construction of a 16-storey, mixed-use tower housing the 212-room Hilton hotel, along with office and retail space and 128 apartments, is expected to begin in the third quarter of 2015 and be completed by late 2017.

The prestigious Otahuna Lodge in Tai Tapu, Canterbury has been voted no. 1 in the world’s Top 20 International Hideaways in the United States’ most influential luxury travel reader’s poll, Andrew Harper’s Hideaway Report.
The seven-suite Lodge gained 1st place in the annual Reader’s Choice Survey for 2015. Otahuna Lodge was also voted the 14th best Food and Wine Resort in the world. Andrew Harper, in the 35th year of running this report, awarded 122 properties in 51 countries. Otahuna was joined by one other New Zealand property, The Lodge at Kauri Cliffs which also featured on the Hideaway list, ranked at no. 19.

Mantra in the good books
Mantra Group was announced in the ASX Top 200 Companies List, capping off a remarkable year of development and financial achievements.
The Group announced its yearly results last month which included total revenue of $498.8 million representing a 9.7% increase on FY2014; and EBITDAI of $73.1 million up 19.2% on FY2014.
A further 11 hotels were added to the Group’s network in FY2015 and a further five were added in the first two months of 2016 –including the $29.5 million acquisition of the four remaining Outrigger properties in Australia. Another nine hotels are slated to join the group in the next six months with more opportunities in the pipeline.
Elements welcomes new GM
Anticipation is strong for Australia’s newest edition to the tourism and conservation landscapes, Elements of Byron Resort and Spa – a member of AccorHotels MGallery Collection.
To lead the Elements of Byron team a thorough search was conducted and tourism boss Leon Pink has been appointed to the General Manager position.
Leon Pink’s hotel career spans more than twenty years, having managed luxury and boutique hotels and resorts in Europe, Australia, Asia and the Pacific. Most recently he was General Manager for Ayers Rock Resort’s flagship hotel Sails in the Desert, playing a key role in the rejuvenation of the destination. Previous roles include General and Resort Manager roles in Thailand and Fiji.
Cairns opens up on Harbourside
IHG is pleased to announce the opening of Holiday Inn Cairns Harbourside. The property was previously the Mercure Cairns Harbourside and has recently undergone refurbishment to now offer guests modern facilities with stylish décor.

The Star announces upgrades
The Star Sydney is upgrading the Astral Tower and Residences Hotel in a $130 million refurbishment to meet the growing market demand for quality five star accommodation in Sydney.
The refurbishment of rooms and suites at the Astral Tower and Residences will complement The Star’s existing domestic and international luxury offering and is set for completion in mid-2016. The refurbishment demonstrates Echo Entertainment’s focus and investment in raising the level of The Star’s guest service experiences and world-class accommodation.
