China’s “Meryl Streep” down under for TV series
Filming for a new Chinese TV series has kicked off on the Central Coast of NSW.
Called ‘Deep Breathing in Australia’, the six-part series is being filmed at tourism destinations around the country, according to the ABC.
The series is being backed financially by Harman Media, a related company to Harman Global, which recently bought Kooindah Waters resort in Wyong, the first destination being filmed for the series.
“This tourism initiative will give the Central Coast the largest amount of international visibility it has had to date and is costing our community zip,” Wyong’s mayor Doug Eaton told the ABC.
Chinese tourism is a major source of income for Australia, with a growth of almost 18% recorded in the last year, and this documentary will be shown on Chinese television to a potential audience of 400 million people, as per the ABC.
“The Central Coast is an important, in fact an integral part of the offer that NSW provides to Chinese tourists,” NSW Parliamentary Secretary for Tourism Jonathon O’Dea said.
Based on the stars of the series, which include the Chinese ‘”Meryl Streep” and a former world badminton player according to O’Dea, Chinese tourists could be catching a look at Treetops Park, and The Entrance for pelican feeding and the historic Long Jetty, all making appearances in the first episode.
Liu Xiaoqing is regarded as the most influential actress in China, and is famous for her youthful appearance.
“Our natural environment is a key driver for international visitation and this series will create more awareness of our region in China,” Central Coast Tourism’s ceo Robyne Abernethy said.
The filming on the Central Coast is underway and will finish up over the coming days, weather permitting.
