4 ways to sell Rocky

4 ways to sell Rocky

Canada isn’t a hard sell, what with its glorious scenery, curious animals and ease of travel through the country.

So when a client comes to you with thoughts of traipsing through the Rockies, there are four things you need to get straight to make the booking flawless.

Straight from the mouth of Rocky Mountaineer’s Steve Farrelly, these are tips to make your life easier.

1. Choose your route

Highlight what route your client wants based on what they want to see. Are they keen on glacier-fed lakes, majestic mountains and rivers? Send them to the Rockies.

Perhaps what takes their fancy is the journey from sea to sky, city to forest, deep valleys to snow-capped peaks. Book them on the Whistler route.

2. Select your season

Spring, summer, May, September? Pick when your client wants to escape to the Rockies and guide them to the best itinerary.

3. Choose your service

While the Rocky Mountaineer journey is typically divided into Red, Silver and Gold Leaf service, as of 2016, the Red Leaf is retiring, giving a more premium edge to the operator.

In Silver Leaf, there is a single level dome, with no fine dining carriage, and meals served at the guest’s seat. In Gold Leaf, it is a bi-level dome with an a la carte experience in the coach cooked to order for every carriage.

Along with this, Gold Leaf offers an exclusive outdoor vestibule, and both include complimentary beverages, something that wasn’t offered on Red Leaf.

4. Customise, customise, customise

There are stacks of little add-ons to enhance your client’s experience in Canada, and are easy to tack on to a Rocky Mountaineer journey.

Add a sightseeing tour or activity, set your clients up with a self-drive segment through Avis rental cars, or create a rail and coach tour combo for the ultimate worry-free trip.

Your client

Rocky Mountaineer has done extensive research to find out who is their audience, and have come up with a few things to look out for.

The key clients are married, affluent, and want longer trips, with more days on the train. As most agents tend to sell two days on a train tour, travellers have said upon leaving they wished they could stay longer.

So next time you have a client that is keen on the Rockies, or are in need of some guidance with planning a holiday, look to your go-to guide for the easy steps to a sale.
