TripAdvisor sticks fork in Aussie food scene

TripAdvisor has purchased Dimmi, an online reservation platform in Australia for an undisclosed amount.

Dimmi, which launched in 2009, currently has a network of over 2500 bookable restaurants across Australia allowing diners to make bookings based on preferred location, availability, price, type of cuisine and diner reviews.

“Australia is an important market for us. Combining Dimmi’s national restaurant network with TripAdvisor’s local and global community of travelers will allow us to deliver more seated diners to Australian restaurateurs, and help more TripAdvisor users book a great dining experience in Australia,” TripAdvisor president and ceo, Stephen Kaufer, said.

Dimmi claims to have seated more than 11 million Aussie diners across a range of restaurants, including some coveted establishments including Tetsuya’s, Rockpool and Bondi Icebergs.

Dimmi is the latest to be acquired into TripAdvisor’s restaurant division which operates under the brand name ‘TheFork’ in Europe. TheFork has already become the leading restaurant booking platform in Europe with more than 24,000 restaurant partners across 10 markets.

“From Perth to Melbourne, Dimmi has become the preferred booking platform for restaurants and diners and the company will be a valuable addition as we continue to strengthen our global restaurant offering,” TheFork ceo, Bertrand Jelensperger, said.

Dimmi will continue to operate its Sydney headquarters.
