Aida spectacular takes on Sydney Harbour

Handa Opera will take to Sydney’s Harbour this year, with final touches to a sculpture of Nefertiti’s head almost complete.

18m tall alone the Sydney skyline, Nefertiti’s head has been undergoing development for over 6 months and is in the process of being craned into position for the show.

The final part of construction will take place on Friday, following transportation from the workshop in Alexandria.

Designed by Mark Thompson, the sculpture was inspired by Aida’s staging when it premiered in Egypt in 1871.

Aida is the first Handa Opera on Sydney Harbour production that has used only one designer for both costume and stage.
