Avalon Waterways has added two more suite ships to its European fleet with the dual christening of Avalon Poetry II and Avalon Impression in Holland at the weekend.

Avalon Poetry II was christened by Olympic Gold medal-winning British rower and author Katherine Grainger, while J Mara DelliPriscoli, president of Travel Learning Connection, Inc acted as godmother to Avalon Impression.

After the christening, held at Dordrecht in northern Holland, guests were invited aboard the Avalon Poetry II for a Champagne reception, followed by a six-course Captain’s dinner.

The new ships, along with a third Avalon vessel – Avalon Illumination, to be launched in Vienna in June by Australian godmother Deborah Hutton – will bring the fleet’s suite ship total to eight in an overall European fleet of 13 modern vessels, each operating itineraries on the Rhine, Danube, Main and Moselle rivers.
