New scheme to help agents get Hong Kong-savvy
By admin

A revamped online training scheme from the Hong Kong Tourism Board aims to help agents become a “bit more savvy” when selling the destination.

Unveiled earlier this month, the new scheme features a cleaner and completely different look, designed to make it easier for consultants to find the information that they require.

It is tailored specifically to the Australian market, whereas the old scheme had a more global outlook.

Nonetheless, its predecessor had proved popular with the local trade, trade marketing manager Lisa Lee told Travel Today.

“Of all the countries, we have one of the highest numbers of specialists,” she said.

HKTB is hopeful the new scheme will be even more successful, with three levels – basic, intermediate and advanced – which can be completed at agents’ own pace.

Uptake of the new scheme so far has been “reasonable”, but the challenge now is for the tourism body to grow awareness of the new scheme and encourage agents to participate.

“We will be incentivising the scheme throughout the year and working with specific trade partners such as Wendy Wu or Flight Centre,” Lee said.

“There are no famils planned at the moment, but for future famils we will favour those who have done the training.”

The program will be continually enhanced with new visual content features such as video, and fresh information as a wave of new projects such as the second phase of the Cruise Terminal and the West Kowloon Cultural Precinct reach completion.
