Kid-free cabins perform well for Scoot
By admin

Budget carrier Scoot has reported a solid uptake of its kid-free cabins, launched in August last year, as passengers respond to increased choice onboard.

Its ScootinSilence product features 41 seats across five rows that offer extra legroom – and no children under the age of 12.

“Initially, people wanted to find something wrong with it, but the more people think about it they realise they can’t find anything wrong about it,” chief executive Campbell Wilson told Travel Today.

“It just gives people another choice – 90% of the aircraft is still for any age.”

Rather than being unfair to families, the product in fact “empowers” them, according to Wilson.

“They know that anyone sitting around them, giving them dirty looks had the choice,” he said.

Sales of the product have done “quite well” with the zone offering additional legroom as well as the absence of young children.

Meanwhile, the airline continues to increase the choices available for its customers with the expansion of its inflight dining menu which incorporates 25 choices of meal.

"Our whole philosophy is to try and keep it really simple. We offer a basic travel from a to b fare and allow people to customise that as they wish," Wilson said. " We're allowing people to choose what matters to them."
