India ramps up play for Australian market
By admin

India’s ministry of tourism has underlined the importance of the Australian market as it predicted a significant rise in Aussie visitors on the back of the recently re-launched Air India services.

At an event in Sydney last night attended by 200 industry guests, secretary of the Indian ministry for tourism Parvez Dewan acknowledged immigration problems at India’s airports. But he promised that improvements are being made, although they could take 12 months.

Meanwhile, significant upgrades to the airports at New Delhi and Mumbai, have shifted them “being along the world’s worst to among the world’s best”.

In addition, the destination is becoming increasingly affordable as exchange rates shift, according to Dewan.

Yesterday’s roadshow, held in recognition of Australia’s significance and to grow it further, featured more than 20 Indian organisations.

“It is an integral part of an ongoing drive to help attract more Australian tourists to India under the ministry of tourism, government of India’s Incredible India campaign,” Dewan said.

Their presentations were designed to “better equip” Australians with the necessary information to explore India’s attractions which include 30 UNESCO World Heritage sights.
