Hawaii sets Australian arrival record

Hawaii sets Australian arrival record
By admin

Australians are venturing beyond Oahu to neighbouring Hawaiian islands in greater numbers as tourism officials today released a new set of record arrivals from Australia.

Arrivals last year soared to 253,410, up 34% on 2011, according to official figures from Hawaii Tourism Oceania.

Even more encouraging was the wider dispersal of visitors, one of the key goals of tourism leaders.

Overall travel to the islands beyond Oahu increased 19%, with visitors to Hawai'i Island up 24%, Kauai 21%, Maui 12% and Lanai and Molokai both up 24%.

Honeymoon traffic soared 32% with a 57% increase in couples getting hitched in Hawaii.

Tourism officials identified several factors for the surge in interest, including the continued strength of the dollar and increased flights. Hawaiian Airlines introduced services from Brisbane in November 2012 and Jetstar launched flights from Melbourne in December.
