Emirates adds second daily A380 to Sydney
By admin

Emirates will operate a second daily Airbus A380 service between Dubai and Sydney from the beginning of June, the latest in a series of changes to its Australian network.

From June 2, the carrier's early morning service from Sydney to Dubai, currently operated by a Boeing 777-300ER, will be operated by the larger aircraft. The deployment adds 1848 seats per week to the route.

Vice president Australasia Barry Brown said the move is a "clear indication" of strong customer demand for the larger aircraft and the rising popularity of the early morning service.

"Australia represents an important market for Emirates and ranks in the top three countries on Emirates' global network," he said. "Adding larger capacity aircraft is central to our strategy of meeting growing passenger demand, while supporting trade between our two countries."

The second service also "compliments our proposed plans for the partnership with Qantas," Brown added.

A recent Deloitte report into the economic value of Sydney Airport projected an additional A380 service between Dubai and Sydney would not only contribute an estimated $342 million to Australia's GDP and would create 4,400 jobs, with 2,800 of those in New South Wales.
