Princess to base another ship in Australia
By admin

Princess Cruises will base a record five ships in Australia next year with the addition of the 2600-guest Golden Princess adding yet more capacity Down Under.

Golden Princess will make her maiden visit to Australia when she arrives in Sydney in October 2015.

The ship will then move to Melbourne to become the biggest cruise ship ever homeported in the city, weighing 108,000 tonnes and with a capacity for 2600 guests.

Golden Princess will be here for a five-month season, cruising to New Zealand, the South Pacific and Tasmania.

Stuart Allison, Princess Cruises' Vice President of Australia and New Zealand, said in a statement that the record fleet will increase the cruise line's Melbourne capacity by 20% and its overall capacity by 35%.

In another significant move for Princess, onboard pricing will be in Australian dollars for the first time.

Also in Australia for the 2015/16 summer will be Diamond Princess, which will offer a record 11 round trip itineraries from Sydney.

Meanwhile, Sun Princess will remain in Australia for the 2015 winter, joining sister ships Dawn and Sea Princess in offering cruises year round.

Sun Princess will offer 11 cruises to and from WA between October 2015 and March 2016, giving the state its first year-round cruise program.

Brisbane will also experience its biggest year of Princess Cruises' offerings, with Sun Princess sailing from the city from August to November 2015, and Sea Princess offering cruises from November 2015 to April 2016. Both ships will sail on a range of cruises to PNG, the South Pacific, Queensland and New Zealand.

Australia is Princess Cruises' second-largest market following the US.
