WATCH: Elephant charges jeep on safari

A group of tourists, believed to be Australian, have recorded the moment an elephant charged their vehicle while on a safari.

Smartphone footage posted by multiple news outlets shows an African elephant charging the tourist safari car, with the driver desperately attempting to evade the animal while reversing.

Some of the passengers seen in the footage use their phones to capture the ordeal. The elephant then appears to ram the front of the jeep.

The African elephant is the largest land-based animal on the planet, and can weight up to 6,000 kilograms.

Earlier this month, a group of tourists filmed an incident of a woman being slapped in the face by an elephant while attempting to capture the moment.
