Snow business cheaper in NZ

Snow business cheaper in NZ

New stats show 80% savings on accommodation in NZ snow regions over Australian slopes.

It’s official; New Zealand hotel prices in snow regions are some 80% cheaper than Aussie counterparts in peak season.

According to latest statistics from hotel search Trivago, visitors can expect to pay less for accommodation in New Zealand’s major snow areas between July to September compared with Australian snow regions.

On average, visitors can nab accommodation for $204 to $206 per night between July and September in New Zealand snow towns, in comparison with average prices of between $368 per night at peak times in July to $237 in September in Australia.

Stating the obvious, Trivago reveals towns and villages closer to the vicinity or base of the mountain are generally more expensive, with Falls Creek Village staking its claim as Australia’s dearest ski village with average prices per night of $670 in July and $676 in August.

Meanwhile, across the ditch, Cardrona is New Zealand’s most expensive, averaging $309, $316 and $317 per night over the July to September period.

Snow enthusiasts can, however, save up to 54% in September if they choose to stay in Wanaka as opposed to Cardrona, and 55% in August if they decide to stay in Jindabyne compared to Perisher, Trivago reveals.

Those on a tight budget should look to ski in September, with Australian ski towns dropping rates by as much as 37%, and New Zealand’s Queenstown accommodation rates decreasing about 12%.
