Singapore Airlines plane catches on fire

A Singapore Airlines Boeing 777 plane caught fire during an emergency landing at Changi Airport Monday afternoon.

Flight SQ368, which was bound for Milan, returned to Changi after two hours into its journey after the pilot reported engine problems, Singapore news outlets reported.

In YouTube footage captured, the right wing of the Boeing 777 can be seen on fire as it sat on the runway when the plane landed at 7am local time.

A passenger told The Straits Times that “the blaze was quite fierce and we waited for around two or three minutes before the fire engines arrived.”

Despite the emergency, the plane’s passengers remained calm, she said.

Singapore Airlines released a statement saying “the plane’s right engine caught fire when it touched down at Changi. Passengers disembarked through stairs and were transported to the terminal building by bus.”
