Magic spaceship plane will get you to Europe in five hours

Hold on to your hats, folks, because that nightmare 16-hour-minimum flight to Europe could be eradicated, thanks to US plane manufacturer Boeing.

Recently, in a presentation at the 2018 American Institute of Aeronautics Aviation in Atlanta, the company revealed plans for a ‘hypersonic’ plane, which definitely looks like a plane-spaceship hybrid.

And, yeah – it will travel so fast, a flight from Australia to Europe will be cut down to five hours. Seriously.

Unveiling the unnamed plane in Atlanta, Boeing said it could travel up to 6500km/h. Which is five times the speed of sound, BTW.

According to Nine News, Kevin Bowcutt, Boeing chief hypersonic scientist, said that this plane will be revolutionary for international travel.

“We’re excited about the potential of hypersonic technology to connect the world faster than ever before,” he said.

“Boeing is building upon a foundation of six decades of work designing, developing and flying experimental hypersonic vehicles.”

This design is intended to carry passengers at top speed, but Bowcutt also said it could potentially be used for military or commercial use.

“This is just one of several hypersonic vehicle concepts spanning a wide range of potential applications company engineers are studying,” a statement from the company said.

“Engineers are working company-wide to develop enabling technology which will position the company for the time when customers and markets are ready to reap the benefits of hypersonic flight,” he said.

But don’t start trying to book flights yet – passengers won’t be able to get to Europe in a mere five hours for another 20 or 30 years, according to Boeing.

We’re still pretty damn excited though.
