Lufthansa retires Germanwings brand

Lufthansa retires Germanwings brand

Following the fatal crash into the French Alps in March, Lufthansa have announced it will retire its Germanwings name and merge operations into its relatively new Eurowings brand.

The two carriers, it was reported by PAX news, will be “bundled, aiming primarily at the private travel sector”, and referred to as The ‘New Eurowings’, a concept established in late 2014 to compete with Europe’s growing competition in the low-cost carrier and point-to-point travel segment.

Retiring the Germanwings brand later this year was already on the cards for the LCC, and prior to the devastating crash in March, according to the airline group.
