How to earn extra frequent flyer points (without flying)

We have excellent, amazing news. Well, we do if you’re a Qantas frequent flyer member, anyway.

Qantas, in true Qantas form, has made it even easier to earn frequent flyer points without even flying anywhere.

So forget swiping your woolies reward card or spending big bucks on your credit card for those extra points, because now Uber is officially on board the Qantas train.

Thats right, from this Friday November 3, you can hop in an Uber to the airport and earn frequent flyer points!

One point for every dollar spent, to be exact (if you’re a bronze member).

If you’re a silver member you get two points – and if you’re a gold or platinum member you’ll score three points per dollar.

The best news? If you are severely behind and haven’t downloaded the Uber app yet, Qantas will reward you with 2000 bonus points when you join through Qantas and book an Uber to anywhere in Australia – not just the airport.

To put that sweet deal in perspective for you, you’d have to spend $2000 in Uber rides to the airport to earn that many points. Seriously.

“We’re pleased to welcome Uber as one of our Frequent Flyer partners. We know it’s a service our customers already like using and now they have the ability to earn Qantas Points on their rides to and from the airport,” said Qantas Chief Customer Officer Olivia Wirth.

To start earning those points (and saving them up for free flights) just download the Qantas app and book your Uber to the airport through the lil’ icon.

But if you don’t go through the Qantas app, you won’t earn any frequent flyer points – the Uber app isn’t a mindreader, after all.

The new partnership is part of Qantas’ aim to provide their customers with everything they need for a holiday through their app – like hotels, flights and insurance.

And if getting a taxi to the airport ends up being easier for you – Qantas also has a partnership with taxi-ordering app Ingogo, which you can link to your Qantas account.

You can earn points when travelling to these selected airports:

  • Adelaide
  • Avalon
  • Brisbane
  • Byron Bay
  • Cairns
  • Canberra
  • Gold Coast
  • Hobart
  • Maroochydore
  • Melbourne
  • Newcastle
  • Perth
  • Sydney
  • Toowoomba
  • Townsville
