Visit USA lauds Australia numbers

Visit USA Australia president Geoffrey Hutton has described 2011 as “the most amazing year for the USA” from the local market.

Not only was the one million visitor milestone surpassed but Australians stayed longer than ever, he said.
Speaking at an event in Sydney to mark Visit USA Week, Hutton said Australian tourists now stay an average of 25 days in the US and are the only international market to visit more than two states.
He also revealed that Brand USA, the public private partnership formed to promote America – formerly called the Corporation for Travel Promotion – was expected to visit Australia later this year and will invest in the local market.
Brand USA will match “dollar for dollar” the spend of local companies, Hutton said.
The United States Ambassador to Australia, Jeff Bleich, said the number of Australian visitors was “remarkable” given its population.
