Tourism Whitsundays to woo the industry with awards night

Tourism Whitsundays has announced its 2023 Whitsundays Tourism Awards which are to be held at the recently opened Proserpine Entertainment Centre on Friday, 20th October.

The selection of the Proserpine Entertainment Centre (PEC) as the venue for the awards marks a change in the style of celebration for 2023. Taking on feedback from last year’s awards night, the decision was made to deliver a cocktail-style event that featured a well-airconditioned venue for the award presentations.

Following an $18.8 million rebuild, the PEC can seat up to 380 people in the auditorium and has international standard lighting, sound equipment, and professional backstage areas.

Bishopp – outdoor advertising company – has come on as a sponsor for the first time, and sales director Dominic Lis said it’s an honour to support the industry celebration.

“We have a growing presence in The Whitsundays and work with many of the businesses in the tourism industry to boost their advertising locally and out of the region, so sponsoring the Tourism Awards made perfect sense for us. We’re looking forward to joining in to celebrate some of our own wins in The Whitsundays with the tourism industry,” Lis said.

Tourism Whitsundays CEO, Rick Hamilton, expressed his excitement for the new location and style of the 2023 awards.

“We are thrilled to be bringing the Whitsundays Tourism Awards to the Proserpine Entertainment Centre! It is a fantastic venue that provides the perfect backdrop for recognising the outstanding achievements in our tourism sector,” he said.

“We’re looking forward to a different style of event this year with two distinct elements to the evening – live music, canapes and drinks on the lawn followed by the awards ceremony in the auditorium. In a region with such a variety of townships, sharing our event locations is crucial.”

The event promises to be a night of celebration and recognition as business owners, management, and staff gather to honour the remarkable contributions and successes within The Whitsundays tourism industry. In addition to the presentation of accolades, the evening will feature entertainment, food and networking opportunities.
