Sydney cruise boat had unsafe gas levels in bathroom where woman died

A Sydney Harbour cruise boat has been found to have unsafe gas levels in its bathroom where a woman died over the weekend.

Emergency services were called to a marina on Roberts Street in Balmain just after 4pm on Saturday after a woman was found unconscious in the bathroom of the Lady Rose charter, which is run by All Occasion Cruises.

A 39-year-old Berowra woman, who can now be identified as Shalina Abdul Hussien, was found dead at the scene.

NSW Police said officers from the Marine Area Command attended the scene, along with Fire and Rescue NSW HAZMAT crews.

“Investigators were advised that several gas detection tests were conducted in a bathroom area of the vessel and were found to be in excess of safe operating levels,” the police statement said.

“The vessel has been secured at the Marine Area Command base where further forensic testing will be completed.

“A post-mortem examination will be conducted to determine the cause of the woman’s death.”

Police will prepare a report for the Coroner outlining the full circumstances surrounding the woman’s death.
