Sparks fly as packed Ryanair flight slides down runway without nose gear

A Ryanair flight has made a spectacular emergency landing at Dublin Airport.

Sparks flew from underneath the Boeing 737 as it screeched its way along the tarmac.

It wasn’t just the airport fire service watching the event unfold, the landing was streamed live on the internet to an audience of thousands.

Airports Live TV, a YouTube channel which broadcasts aviation content, was streaming a live plane-spotting show when the emergency landing took place.

Flight FR5542 was operating a flight from Liverpool’s John Lennon International Airport to Dublin on Sunday local time.

A spokesperson for the Dublin Airport Authority confirmed an emergency had been declared at the airport.

“This is now an aircraft recovery incident. There are no reports of any injuries although 1 person was treated for shock. National Ambulance Service personnel met passengers on arrival. The South Runway remains closed & the North Runway is in use this evening due to the Emergency,” an airport spokesperson said.

Ryanair said: “This flight from Liverpool to Dublin (9 Apr) experienced a minor technical issue with its nose landing gear upon landing. Passengers and crew disembarked normally and the aircraft will shortly be towed back to the hangar for further inspection by Ryanair engineers,” in a statement to the Irish Examiner.
