Seasoned cruise sales director joins Aurora Expeditions

Aurora Expeditions has announced the appointment of cruise industry veteran Steve McLaughlin as its new director of sales for the Asia-Pacific region.

With a career spanning more than 30 years in the global travel and cruise industry, including stints at brands such as Cunard, Ponant, Lindblad Expeditions, Orion and Oceania Cruises, McLaughlin brings a wealth of experience and to the Australian-owned company ahead of its 30th anniversary in 2021.

Aurora Expeditions CEO Monique Ponfoort said McLaughlin’s global sales connections, industry knowledge and customer service skills made him an “exceptional” recruit.

“I am thrilled to be working with Steve again as our new director of sales [for] APAC, and that he has returned to his true passion of expedition cruising to join us,” she said.

“Steve’s impressive and extensive sales experience ensures he will bring a wide range of perspectives and know-how to our business. He is a true veteran of the trade, and I really look forward to working alongside him as the company continues to grow.

“We would like to congratulate Di Schinella as she moves on to an exciting new role outside of the industry, and we thank her for her incredible dedication over the last 3.5 years, creating long-lasting relationships with our trade partners.”

Commenting on his appointment, McLaughlin said: “I am incredibly grateful to have the opportunity to join the Aurora Expeditions team. Travel is my absolute passion, especially expedition cruising.

“I was attracted to Aurora Expeditions as a homegrown Australian business that has an exciting future with the upcoming delivery of its second purpose-built ship, the Sylvia Earle, and outstanding new voyages scheduled in 2022.

“I cannot wait to work closely with Aurora Expeditions’ loyal trade partners on our new expedition itineraries and remote destinations.”

McLaughlin commenced his role at Aurora Expeditions yesterday and is based in the cruise line’s Sydney office.
