Qantas, Tourism WA team up for “dreamy” limited edition amenity kits

Qantas and Tourism Western Australia have teamed up with Western Australian Wongi artist Kevin Wilson to feature his artwork on limited-edition Qantas amenity kits.

In celebration of Western Australia’s new global tourism brand Walking On A Dream, Kevin Wilson’s artwork showcases some of the most beautiful parts of WA. It combines elements of ancient tracks, waterways and animals from iconic WA destinations including Ningaloo Reef, the Margaret River Region, the Kimberley and Perth.

From today, the amenity kits will be offered to business class customers travelling on Qantas international flights from Singapore, London and Rome to Perth. The kits contain a range of essential travel items including an eye mask featuring Wilson’s design, along with socks, earplugs, and Lit’ya skincare products.

Qantas Group chief customer officer Markus Svensson, said the airline’s amenity kits provide a unique canvas to highlight the beauty and diversity of Western Australia to a global audience.

“We are committed to bringing more travellers to experience Western Australia. The city and regional areas have so much to offer and we’re proud to showcase its nature and culture through a talented artist,” Svensson said.

“Along with inflight pyjamas, amenity kits are an important part of the Qantas international business experience. Many of our customers repurpose them as wallets, or for storing make-up or keys, so we’re pleased to provide an opportunity for our customers to take home a special piece of artwork by a local Indigenous artist.”

Tourism WA managing director Carolyn Turnbull said it was a privilege to partner with Qantas to showcase the work of a talented Western Australian Aboriginal artist and the dreamlike and wondrous aspects of the state with visitors.

“The launch of the amenity kits provides another opportunity to highlight what makes Western Australia the Dream State – with its vast, jaw-dropping landscapes, supernatural colour contrasts, otherworldly phenomena, and one-of-a kind experiences that inspire a sense of unparalleled freedom,” Turnbull said.

“While relaxing on flights, we hope this artwork helps to inspire Qantas passengers ahead of their dream stay in Western Australia.”

Kevin Wilson, who is from the Western Australian Goldfields and a founding partner of Aboriginal creative agency Nani Creative, said he aimed to capture the story of wondering, exploration and discovery within his artwork.

“My work explores the interconnectedness of all this and the reason I feel our state is so special. It’s deep in culture and history, while also vibrant and expansive,” Wilson said.

“It’s so nice to be able to create some work that reflects our state for those coming to visit or stay. I hope that the vivid, interwoven artwork sparks the adventure within and encourages people to explore our beautiful landscapes.

“There aren’t many places that feel so big but can feel like a small community at the same time. Our cities are bustling, if you love that city life. Then you can jump in a car and within an hour be out underneath the stars away from it all. Hopefully you can get lost in my artwork in the same way you can adventure across our state.”
