P&O Cruises has coordinated the medical evacuation from Port Vila of ten Pacific Dawn guests who sustained significant injuries in a road accident in Vanuatu yesterday.

The airlift has been underway throughout the night and today to transfer guests to hospitals in Noumea and Brisbane for specialist medical care.

Three air ambulances were this morning sent from Brisbane and Coolangatta to Port Vila.

The Vanuatu Daily Post reported that three locals died from their injuries, including the driver of the local commuter bus.

Local police and the Vanuatu government are investigating the matter. Minister of Public Utilities Jotham Napat said the “government is committed to ensuring safety on our roads.”

A medic who attended the crash said it involved the tour bus run by a local operator, and a local commuter bus.
