Panic at JFK airport with reports shots fired

New York, USA - June 7, 2013: People hurry at JFK Airport on June 7, 2013 in New York. In 2012, the airport handled 49.3 million passengers (6th busiest in the United States).

There are reports of a shooter at Terminal 8 at New York’s JFK airport, causing a mass evacuation.

Local USA news agencies are reporting the NYPD told CBS2 that multiple calls started coming in around 8.34pm of reports of shots fired at Terminal 8 of JFK Airport.

Pictures have emerged on social media of people being evacuated from the airport.

According to news.com.au, “the NYPD is assisting at the request of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.”

“There is no confirmation of an actual shooter, and no confirmation of any injuries yet.”

Passengers on other planes bound for JFK are reportedly being diverted away from the airport as the incident is being investigated.

“Panic at jfk theyre closing the gates at security—possible shooter,” Twitter user @archcomix wrote at 9:36 p.m.
