Emirates plane battles dangerous crosswind

Pilot nails skilful landing of Emirates airbus as it makes frightening touchdown during violent crosswinds.

If you a nervous flier, be glad you didn’t find yourself on the Emirates Airbus A380 from Dubai to Dusseldorf last Thursday, as your worst nightmare may have just come true!

The dramatic scenes of the Emirates aeroplane skidding across Dusseldorf Airport tarmac has been captured on film, after it was caught descending in to the middle of high crosswinds, per news.com.au.

The incredible footage shows the world’s biggest aeroplane getting swept across the runway, courtesy of Storm Xavier’s roaring rage, that has been reaping havoc across Germany the past few days.

The landing was filmed by plane spotter, Martin Bogdan, who’s video went immediately viral, racking in more than 1.7 million views on Youtube.

Clearly not just another day at the office, the pilot appears to terrifically tackle the powerful winds, staying in control of the aircraft and making a (somewhat) A+ landing.

“At first it looked like a pretty normal crosswind approach but after touchdown the pilots tried to align with the runway which looked pretty incredible,” Mr Bogdan said in the video caption.

According to news.com.au, pilots are expertly trained to land safely during a crosswind, so while passengers may have been saying their last prayers, their pilot had it all under control.

“I have never seen such a tremendous reaction of an aeroplane after a touchdown. “You can see that the pilots tried to align with the runway by using the tail rudder and luckily it worked out.”

The pilot used a “crabbing” technique to avoid drifting across the tarmac by facing the plane directly into the wind.

No one was injured on the flight which made a safe landing thanks to the pilot’s impressive moves.

“At no point was the safety of the passengers and crew onboard compromised,” an Emirates spokesman said.

Passengers at the back of the airbus surely suffered the full brunt of the wild bumpy ride, check the full video out here:
