Australia to Hong Kong travel only at 46% of 2019 figures

Recent data from flight database and statistics provider, OAG, reveals a slow response to tourism in the Australia to Hong Kong market.

Figures show 51 weekly flights between Australia and Hong Kong between May and September of this year, just 46 per cent of the same period in 2019.

Hong Kong opened its borders following the COVID pandemic later than most other countries, and is now only around half as recovered as other markets such as Australia to Singapore which is sitting around 87 per cent.

Cathay Pacific and Qantas share the non-stop market between Australia and Hong Kong, holding 81 per cent and 19 per cent respectively during the May and September period.

VietJet recently offered flights for AU$200 for travellers on their app in a bid to break into the struggling market, along with a number of other incentives to crack the broader Australian market.
