Silversea announces third expedition ship

Silversea announces third expedition ship
By admin

Silversea has announced that a third expedition ship called Silver Discoverer will be based in Asia-Pacific from March next year.

Silversea acknowledged that this tight lead-in time calls for a "big selling job" that will rely on their regular customer base and established brand.

“We’ve identified that there is an opportunity in this market for a luxury product, an all-inclusive Silversea product, that delivers on unique destinations,” Silversea Europe and Asia President Steve Odell said.

The global announcement was made in Sydney, reflecting the cruise liner’s confidence in Australia, the second largest market for expedition cruising.

“That’s to do with what Australians like to do when they travel – they like to see unique things, they don’t mind spending for a unique experience,” Odell said.

Silversea expects Australians will represent half of passengers, but will also target international travellers from strong distribution countries.

The ship will accommodate 128 passengers, and uniquely for an expedition vessel it offers a pool and five accommodation categories.

Silver Discoverer will sail to Micronesia, Melanesia, Polynesia, Russian Far East, Southeast Asia, Australia and New Zealand.

The Russian Far East in particular is a destination that has been untapped by expedition cruising.

"These are areas that weren’t accessible to anyone in any great way until recently,” Odell said.
