The ongoing nationwide Optus outage is now affecting flights.

Speaking to Travel Weekly, a spokesperson for Virgin Australia said the airlines operations had been hit by the outage.

“The Optus network outage has impacted approximately 40 flights, with delays of an average of 20 minutes. There have been no cancellations yet, however this may change,” the spokesperson said.

“We are proactively communicating with our guests via SMS, email, social media and our website.”

The Optus network outage is currently impacting the airline’s Guest Contact Centre and other telephone services within the airline, as well.

“At this stage, our network is experiencing minor delays. We anticipate delays may worsen until the outage is resolved.”

The airline is encouraging guests to visit its website or social media channels and thanks guests for their patience while this issue is resolved.
