Weather conditions force delays to cruise sailings in Auckland

Extreme weather conditions in New Zealand have forced the delay of one of Princess Cruises sailings.

Princess Cruises confirmed to Travel Weekly that Majestic Princess’ arrival had been delayed while the Port of Auckland remains closed due to adverse weather.

Upon approval from the harbour authority, and subject to weather conditions, Majestic Princess is expected alongside tonight, October 30 at 9:00pm local time.

“Guests will remain onboard till the morning at which time a select number of guests will begin disembarkation at 6:30am local time. Majestic Princess’ arrival into Auckland is part of a 25-day cruise from Los Angeles,” the company said.

“Given this delay, embarkation for the following cruise has been delayed by one day and will now take place on Tuesday, October 31.”

One passenger who spoke to Travel Weekly said he hadn’t been offered any alternative accomodation and that communication had been poor (he used a different word).

He said he had been refunded the value of one night of the cruise and given US$25 onboard credit.

A Ports of Auckland spokesperson said the port closed yesterday due to high winds and shipping operations were resuming this evening.
