Royal Caribbean makes long awaited return to Aus & New Cali

Royal Caribbean International made its highly anticipated return to Australia and New Caledonia last week with the arrival of Ovation of the Seas and Quantum of the Seas to each respective country.

The arrival of the Ovation of the Seas in Sydney marked its first time back since 2019.

Gavin Smith, vice president and managing director, Royal Caribbean International, Australia and New Zealand, said Ovation’s sixth season from Sydney is a testament to the demand from Australians looking to have the ultimate summer holiday.

“This is an incredibly exciting time for Royal Caribbean in Australia, with Ovation’s return to Sydney and Quantum of the Seas’ arrival into Brisbane on Tuesday,” Smith said.

“It is fantastic to see Ovation in Sydney Harbour once again, and today is also an important milestone to thank our suppliers, the travel industry and our loyal guests for the unwavering support they have demonstrated over the last two years.”

New Caledonia celebrated the return of Royal Caribbean on Friday with the arrival of Quantum of the Seas in Noumea.

On the ship’s arrival, a plaque and key ceremony was conducted by the ship’s Captain Arild Hanson and The Harbour Master of Noumea, a tradition for all vessels on their maiden call to a port.

Quantum is on her way to Brisbane where she will homeport for the first time as part of her maiden sailing season in Australia.

The arrival of Ovation and Quantum of the Seas in New Caledonia is an exciting boost to the local community and businesses as the cruise industry makes a comeback to the region, said Michael Forrest, member of the New Caledonian government and president of New Caledonia Tourism.

“Today we are delighted to welcome Quantum of the Seas to Nouméa for the first time, we also look forward to welcoming back her sister ship Ovation of the Seas this season,” Forrest said.

“Cruise ship guests play a key role in supporting the New Caledonian tourism economy, therefore today is a celebration for all the local operators who have been looking forward to this recovery.”

Ovation and Quantum of the Seas offer guests 2–12-night sailings, with ports of call including destinations across Australia, New Zealand, and the picture-perfect islands of the South Pacific where guests can embrace island life. At these destinations, guests will have access to a raft of shore excursions and the opportunity to explore destinations at their own pace.
