Midweek catch-up with TourRadar’s Travis Pittman

Midweek catch-up with TourRadar’s Travis Pittman

This week, we caught up with TourRadar’s co-founder and CEO Travis Pittman who could be easily mistaken for Pat Cummins in our opinion – not like that’s a bad thing though.

What’s your main goal for this year?

Book as many people on organised adventures as we possibly can whether that be through our own marketplace, TourRadar.com, or through our partners both on and offline.

What’s your favourite thing about working in the travel industry?

Being able to have an influence on what people can do when they decide to take a trip away.

How do you like to spend your free time?

Being active outdoors as much as possible – mountain biking, wakeboarding, swimming, running – as much with my kids as possible.

Have you managed to do any travelling since restrictions began to ease (domestic or international)?

Yes, have squeezed in US, UK, and France for work and a short trip home to Australia for a combined work/personal trip.

What’s your favourite travel company, besides the one you work for?

From a brand point of view – Airbnb – I have nothing but respect for what they’ve managed to build in such a relatively short amount of time – but unfortunately, basically, 4 out of my last 5 personal experiences of staying with them have been horrible.

If you could invite three famous guests (dead or alive) to a dinner party, who would you choose?

Marcus Aurelius, Amelia Earhart and Richard Branson.

What’s something positive you’ve witnessed or experienced since the global pandemic hit?

I’ve personally enjoyed seeing how it’s possible to rally a team of people around a common goal and be pushed to the limits in ways we could never have dreamed of but to have come out the other side stronger and more cohesive than ever before.

What’s your advice for others in the travel industry on coping with the global pandemic?

Time spent on maintaining and building trust through relationships is vital.

Maintain focus on creating efficiencies within your business.

What book and/or TV show can you not get enough of lately?

Can I say a Podcast? If so, The Knowledge Project with Shane Parrish.

Do you have any travel goals for 2022?

See the northern lights with the kids and get them back to Australia to see family for the first time in nearly 4 years.
