Traveller caught using fake vaccine certificate after misspelling ‘Moderna’

A traveller was caught trying to skip quarantine requirements in Hawaii using a forged COVID vaccine certificate.

And she may have gotten away with it if she hadn’t misspelled the name of the vaccine she claimed to have received.

Chloe Morozak, a 24-year-old person from Illinois, was arrested and charged on suspicion of using falsified vaccination documents so she could avoid Hawaii’s mandatory 10-day quarantine period upon arriving in the state, according to local TV station Khon2.

It is also alleged she used false information when asked where she would be staying while visiting Hawaii.

When Morozak’s Southwest Airlines flight landed in Oahu on 23 August, the state’s Safe Travels Program administrator flagged a possible fraudulent vaccine card after she had uploaded and presented her documents at Daniel K. Inouye International Airport.

Their first clue was that the document said Morozak has received the “Maderna” vaccine, instead of the far more popular (and real) Moderna jab.

“That’s one indication, as well as other things, that in the card they thought it was suspicious, and as part of being suspicious, they did an excellent job of notifying us,” special agent Wilson Lau of the Department of the Attorney General said, according to Khon2.

Court documents seen by the TV station revealed no reservation had been found under her Morozak’s name at the hotel she claimed she would be staying in.

“The AG Quarantine Compliance [Check] (QCC) Team conducted its investigations, contacted the appropriate state that does the vaccination and determined there was no record of the suspect that had been vaccinated,” Lau said.

He said a quick trawl through Morozak’s Facebook page showed she was easily identifiable due to a distinctive tattoo on her hip.

Following further investigations, QCC agents were able to locate Morozak at the airport’s Southwest counter on 28 August and arrested her before she could leave Oahu.

She was charged and taken to the Honolulu Police Department after being screened for COVID-19.
