Victoria to end snap lockdown tonight, as WA allows quarantine-free travel from NSW

Victoria is set to end its five-day lockdown as per the schedule tonight, but a few restrictions will remain in place.

From 11:59pm, there will no longer be four reasons for Victorians to leave home, and the five-kilometre restriction will be scrapped, meaning intrastate travel will be allowed.

Restaurants and retail can reopen following the lockdown, along with community facilities, entertainment venues and all other public places, although some additional limits on crowd sizes will be in place.

Instead of the previous 15-person limit, homes are restricted to five visitors per day, and public gatherings with friends and family will be limited to 20.

Masks will be required everywhere indoors, except at home.

Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews said the new restrictions are set to last until next Friday.

South Australia will lift travel restrictions with regional Victoria once the state exits the lockdown, with further plans to ease restrictions for Greater Melbourne from 25 February, provided there are no further COVID-19 cases of community transmission.

Travellers from Victoria will not be permitted to enter Western Australia without an exemption until at least 12.01am (local time) on Thursday.

In other domestic border news, travel from NSW to Western Australia is now permitted without quarantine requirements, but is still subject to strict conditions.
